AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University women's basketball forward and graphic design graduating senior Hallie Christofferson, Hamlin, will represent the ISU College of Design as its student marshal at the university's public commencement exercises Saturday, May 10, at Hilton Coliseum. Her faculty escort will be Paula Curran, associate professor of graphic design.

Christofferson will receive a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design from Iowa State.

Christofferson has been on the Dean's List four semesters. A member of the Iowa State women's basketball team from 2010 to 2014, she was named a CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-American in 2014, an Academic All-Big 12 First Team member in 2012, 2013 and 2014, and an ISU Scholar Athlete in 2013 and 2014.

Additional honors include Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American in 2013 and 2014, 2013-14 Senior CLASS Award finalist and 2014 ISU Letterwinner All-Around Award.

That one of the top players in women's basketball also excelled in the rigorous graphic design program is especially noteworthy, said Curran, who taught Christofferson in her advanced typography course and senior graphic design studio.

Curran also served as the adviser for Christofferson's 2013 summer internship with the Ames Main Street Cultural District.

"I have never had a student athlete in my courses who has been as dedicated, talented and intelligent as Hallie. She does her work, does it well, and always with a positive attitude. She has never missed a deadline and has never asked for an extension," Curran said.

Christofferson also volunteered her time in support of various causes throughout the community. With her ISU teammates, she adopted Elise Lambert, an Iowa child with brain cancer, through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, and participated in the St. Jude Give thanks. Walk™ with the Lamberts for three years.

Christofferson also assisted with Jr. Cyclone clinics, volunteered at Green Hills Retirement Community, and helped with the SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) Adopt-a-Family program at Christmas.

Christofferson has signed with the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury for training camp and after graduation, she plans to play basketball while doing freelance design. She intends to pursue a design career full time after retiring from basketball.

Christofferson is a 2010 graduate of Exira High School. She is the daughter of Tom and Phyl Christofferson of Hamlin. Her sister, Britta (Christofferson) Utterback, Omaha, Neb., was a thrower on the ISU women's track and field team and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology and health.
