AMES, Iowa — Eric Neuhaus of Cedar Rapids will represent the Iowa State University College of Design as its student marshal at the university's public commencement exercises Saturday, May 9, at Hilton Coliseum. His faculty escort will be Kris Nelson, lecturer in architecture.

Neuhaus will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Architecture degree.

Neuhaus was on the Dean's List every semester at Iowa State and in the top 2 percent of his class for nine semesters of the five-year architecture program. As the top-ranking graduating student in the program this year, Neuhaus received the 2015 Undergraduate AIA Medal from the Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

He was a finalist in the 2014 Central Iowa Construction Specifications Institute's juried student design competition. He also was part of a collaborative sophomore architecture project that was included in Iowa State's exhibit at the 2012 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC. Earlier this spring semester, Neuhaus participated in an architecture master class taught by Elia Zenghelis, cofounder of the Office of Metropolitan Architecture, Rotterdam, and current principal of Gigantes Zinghelis Architects, Athens.

Neuhaus spent spring semester 2014 studying abroad in Italy with the ISU College of Design Rome Program. In fall 2014 he served as a peer mentor for the Design Studies 102: Design Studio for first-year College of Design students. He worked as an intern for OPN Architects in Cedar Rapids for the past two years and will be joining Olson Kundig Architects in Seattle as an intern after graduation.

Neuhaus is the son of John and Carla Neuhaus of Cedar Rapids and a 2010 graduate of Cedar Rapids Prairie High School.
