AMES, Iowa — Perspective drawings of Iowa State University's Beardshear Hall created by six College of Design students will be displayed in one of the building's conference rooms through the remainder of the 2014-2015 academic year.

Work by Madeline Bestick, Cedar Rapids, freshman open option; Alison Knutson, Libertyville, Ill., sophomore in graphic design; Youeun Lee, Seoul, South Korea, second-year architecture; Kaitlin Morris, Clinton, sophomore in interior design; Alyssa Steinhagen, Rockton, Ill., sophomore in integrated studio arts; and Binhan Tang, Chengdu, China, second-year architecture, was selected by Jonathan Wickert, ISU senior vice president and provost, for display in the administrative conference room.

"We're proud to display student work in our conference room," Wickert said. "Each time I look at the drawings, I'm reminded that our students are incredibly talented, and hold great promise as future artists, designers and architects. I also appreciate how hard our faculty work to further develop those talents while students are here at Iowa State."

The students completed the drawings in 2013-2014 in the DSN S 131: Design Representation course, part of the College of Design's first-year Core Design Program. Together with the Design Building, Molecular Biology Building and Memorial Union, Beardshear Hall is a frequent location for perspective drawing assignments, said Chuck Richards, associate professor of art and visual culture and coordinator of the 131 studios.

"The provost requested the drawings after having seen students sketching in Beardshear over the past several years. Staff in the building were curious to see the results of the work they saw students doing," Richards said. "The drawings chosen represent a small sample of the excellent work made by our first-year students."

A reception for the six students, their drawing instructors and guests will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in 1550 Beardshear Hall.
