College of Design students' work part of ISU Studies in Creativity exhibition

(image) AMES, Iowa — Artwork by 31 students from the Iowa State University Colleges of Design and Liberal Arts and Sciences is on display in the university's annual Studies in Creativity Exhibit, which runs through Dec. 10 in the Iowa State Memorial Union Gallery.

A free public reception will begin at 6 p.m. today, Oct. 29, with remarks by ISU alumnus Asa Wentzel-Fisher, printmaker and owner of Whole Hog Editions, a collaborative printmaking studio in downtown Ames.

Wentzel-Fisher selected 40 works by 28 students from integrated studio arts, integrated visual arts, architecture, landscape architecture and graphic design, and three biological and premedical illustration majors. He will talk about the work and present awards at the reception.

Media featured in the exhibition include acrylic and oil painting, ceramic and clay, charcoal, collage, colored pencil, digital and video, etching and aquatint, furniture/wood, graphite, intaglio, marker, mixed media, markers, knitted trash bags, watercolor and woodcut.

Wentzel-Fisher received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in integrated studio arts from Iowa State in 2008 and completed a two-year apprenticeship at the Tamarind Institute, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. Prior to opening Whole Hog Editions, he worked for a printing shop in Berlin, Germany.
