Publication subvention grants for scholarly works and open access journal articles
The Office of the Vice President for Research offers Publication Subvention Grants to support low-volume scholarly projects that are not expected to be commercially viable without assistance. Grants ranging from $1,000–$10,000 for scholarly works are used to defray costs for publications in the appropriate medium of meritorious scholarly works and other worthy original works by Iowa State University faculty and staff as well as works by others on topics of Iowa and regional interest. Grants for open access journal articles (half the publication cost, up to $1,250) are used to defray costs of publication of articles targeted for high-quality, peer-reviewed open access journals when other funds are not available.
Any full-time faculty member or any P&S staff member at the rank of P37 or above may apply for this award through his/her academic unit. Anyone outside the university working on Iowa-related research topics may apply to this program by working directly with the VPR’s office (see request form). These programs have rolling deadlines.
