Register for Oct. 17 workshop on communicating research and scholarship
The Office of the Vice President for Research will sponsor a public lecture and workshop designed to develop participants’ ability to tell personal stories and apply storytelling craft and theory to communication challenges facing their team. Learn about narrative structure, identifying and developing story leads, improving performance and connecting to audiences.
A public lecture on “Communicating Your Research and Scholarship” will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, in the Memorial Union Pioneer Room. A workshop for faculty on “The Story Collider” will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, the MU Campanile Room. Space is limited and registration is required. This four-hour worshop begins with lecture and discussion, but primarily focuses on helping you develop your storytelling skills. You’ll be introduced to a blend of creative techniques and empirical science to gain a new appreciation of narrative, but most important, you’ll work under the guidance of the Story Collider team to brainstorm, develop and refine your own stories.
