Metalpoint drawing workshop with Aaron Squadroni
Copper drawings by Minnesota artist Aaron Squadroni are on display in the Kawishiwi River exhibition Oct. 6 through Nov. 11 in the Community Gallery at the Octagon Center for the Arts in Ames. Join Squadroni for workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 11, on an experimental technique that can be used for metalpoint drawing.
A metalpoint drawing is made by dragging a metal rod or wire across a surface, often prepared with gesso or primer. Once used by scribes, craftsmen in ancient times and artists during the Renaissance, metalpoint is gaining renewed appreciation in the contemporary art world. In this workshop you will use copper, steel, gold, silver and brass to create unique artworks in which the metals will be applied over various media and aged to create selective patinas.
The fee is $45 for non-members of the Octagon. Register online by Monday, Nov. 6.
