Mark Chidister to be honored at Aug. 18 welcome reception

The College of Design will honor Associate Professor Emeritus Mark Chidister at its annual welcome reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, in the Lyle E. Lightfoot Forum. A brief program will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Chidister joined the Iowa State faculty in 1981 as an assistant professor of landscape architecture and was promoted to associate professor in 1988. He served as interim chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture from 1992–1994, associate dean for academic programs in the College of Design from 1995–2001 and 2014–2016, assistant to the president for budget planning and analysis from 2001–2006, associate professor of art and visual culture from 2006–2017, interim senior policy adviser for the College of Design from 2012–2016 and senior associate dean for planning and academic personnel from 2016 until his retirement June 30. He led the college’s strategic planning process for 2013-2020 and strategic plan update for 2017-2020. He received the 2017 Dean’s Excellence Award for Exceptional Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion.
