Register for mental health first aid training

A majority of mental illness begins between the ages of 18 and 24, and nearly 50 percent of that age range could potentially have an episode while in college. How would you handle it? Who would you call? Iowa State University Police Division and the Ames Police Department will host a mental health first aid training session from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Lynn Fuhrer Lodge, 1635 Amherst Dr., Ames.  The training will help participants better understand mental illness and respond to psychiatric emergencies. Space is limited to 30 people and you must be present for the entire eight-hour session for certification. Cost is $25, which includes materials, lunch and snacks. To register, email Det. Tim Denger,, or call (515) 294-1897.
