The Fiber and Textile studio in the Department of Art & Visual Culture at Iowa State University offers a comprehensive textile curriculum, with courses that include exploration in surface design and dyeing techniques, weaving, and off-loom construction using knit + crochet, felting, and basketry techniques, focusing on both functional and expressive production.

Studio Fundamentals and Advanced Techniques

The 8-week introductory course, Studio Fundamentals: Textiles, provides students with an introduction to both surface and structural textile techniques. This course offers a foundational understanding of these areas of textile design and production, setting the stage for more advanced-level courses. Advanced courses include weaving and print design, natural dyeing, as well as three-dimensional and digital processes. All courses within the Fiber and Textile Studio are applicable toward the Textile Design minor.

The Fiber and Textile studio, located in room 0085, College of Design, provides students with 24/7 access to work outside of class time.
