Public invited to weigh in on statewide housing policy

PERRY, Iowa -- This summer, Iowans will have the opportunity to help inform the state's housing policy at a series of public meetings to be held at various locations around Iowa in June and July.

ISU Extension and the Center for Town/Craft in Perry are hosting the meetings to gather input from Iowans about housing needs and priorities, as part of an ongoing process to develop a state housing policies. The topics to be discussed were identified by community leaders from across Iowa as well as top national and regional experts at a housing policy roundtable sponsored by ISU Extension and Town/Craft in April.

Roundtable participants identified five crucial topics: governance, funding, sustainable housing design, capacity building and planning policy. Each public meeting will begin with presentations on these topics by a panel of experts who attended the roundtable, followed by an opportunity for meeting participants to ask questions and make recommendations. Meetings will close with refreshments and an informal networking session.

Input from the summer meetings will be used when the full group of experts reconvenes in August.

All meetings are on Wednesday afternoons and begin at 1 p.m. Dates and locations include:

June 17, Ottumwa, ISU Extension Wapello County Office, 214 East Main Street
June 24, Sioux City, ISU Design West Studio, 1014-1/2 Design Place
