Initiated in
mid-2004 by Professor Torres, this ongoing project addressed
development of a house museum at the historic Ringland-Smeltzer House
in Fort Dodge. The project has involved faculty and students from
several disciplines within the College of Design to address museum
development and historic preservation, and collaboration with Greenlee
School of Journalism faculty and students toward creation of a
marketing communications plan. Additional faculty involved have
included Çigdem Akkurt, interior design; Tim Borich, community and
regional planning; Lisa Fontaine, graphic design; and Arvid Osterberg,
architecture. Peter Butler, landscape architecture, will begin a new
project for landscaping the grounds and historic district in fall 2006.

This project
involved a site visit and brief presentation of recommendations for
what to do with concrete pillars along the main entrance and to
consider developing a master plan for the Greene County Fairgrounds in
Jefferson.

Warme and Erickson
organized two "charrettes," or intensive design exploration and
planning sessions, for stakeholders from Red Oak to receive input from
various Iowa State University experts in charting the direction for a
major development project at the Thomas D. Murphy Calendar Company
building. Riggs faciliated both sessions, which were held at Iowa
State. Other faculty and staff involved in the charrettes included Dan
Henroid, food service and lodging management; Chris Cook, human
development and family studies; Mark Engelbrecht, dean of the College
of Design; Arvid Osterberg, architecture and gerontology; Tim Borich,
community and regional planning and Institute for Design Research and
Outreach; Maruja Torres, interior design; Pam Iasevoli, interior
design; Tanya Zanish-Belcher, ISU Library archive and research; and
Lynette Pohlman, University Museums.

Worth County Fairgrounds Master Plan

Seeger
worked with graduate assistant Grala to develop a master plan for the
Worth County Fairgrounds in Northwood that included a demonstration
garden, walking trails, entrance gate and arboretum. Four design plan
options were developed and presented as three-dimensional computer
drawings in the final plan.
