Design Output
Center
The College of Design operates its own output center (426 Design), which helps reduce costs to students and allows us to offer longer hours than some of the other university centers. We have added some additional equipment to the center through grants, and we now have a well-rounded service. All jobs are submitted through the college network.
OCE Colorwave 300
This device is a 36"-wide engineering copier/printer. We
can do
enlargements and reductions or print directly from the
network. The cost
for this device is $2/foot.
Laser Cutters
We have two laser cutters in the
output center: a 60-watt from Universal
and a 45-watt from Trotech.
These laser cutters can cut
materials up to 1/4" thick plus
do engraving on a variety of materials.
To keep things as simple
and streamlined as possible, materials for the
cutter are purchased
directly from the Design Output Center. We offer
the
following
materials:
Other materials can be brought in at the discretion of the lab manager.
Dimension uPrint 3D Printer
The 3D Printer uses a two-part
plastic to create models in an 8"
x 8" x
8" envelope. Models are converted to an
STL file format, then output one
layer at a time using the two
materials to create the model and support
areas. Costs for this
device are $5.75/cubic inch of material.
Wide-format Scanner
We
also have a 40"-wide CONTEX
scanner for student use. Scans can be
up to 1/2" thick. Scans are saved to a lab
machine with a CD burner and
network access for storage.
Equipment Checkout
The output center also serves as
a place for students to check out a
wide variety of equipment.
Equipment can be checked out for 24 hours
(or longer with approval).
Other
Services
We also have a walk-up copier, 36" paper cutter, and other office
supplies.
