the pacific rim
The Department of Landscape Architecture offers its own program of study in the Pacific Rim countries (China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia). This program follows the "traveling studio" model (similar to the second-year Traveling Savanna Studio) in which students travel with instructors and gain exposure to traditions of landscape architecture in Asian cultures as well as traditions of indigenous populations' understanding and use of the landscape. Students also interact with students from other universities, such as University Putra Malaysia and the University of Western Australia.
In addition, a number of students choose to pursue study abroad as an option for their fourth-year off-campus requirement. In addition to exchange agreements with a number of U.S. universities, students have been accepted into programs throughout the world.
Students take a class in their junior year to help them choose and prepare for these options.
