- Masonry Institute of Iowa Design Competition
Graduate
student Amy Ciani, interior design, and second-year architecture student Justin Massey won first place in the 2009 Masonry Institute of Iowa Design Competition with
their entrance design proposal for a historic fish hatchery in South Dakota,
developed in an architecture studio class.
- Hospitality Design Awards
Designs by three senior interior design students took top honors in the fifth
annual Hospitality Design Awards competition (2009) sponsored by
Hospitality Design magazine. Michael Goodsmith, Cedar
Rapids, won first place in the student category with his
conceptual designs for a sustainable nightclub. A concept for an
upscale hotel and spa by Anna Anderson, Waukee, and Jennifer
Irey, Davenport, was a
finalist. They developed their projects in the interior design senior
studio taught by assistant professor Jihyun Song.
- Research in the Capitol
Gina Assmann, Omaha, Neb., presented her research on medical decision aids to legislators and others at the fourth annual Research in the Capitol event in the rotunda of the State Capitol Building in Des Moines in 2009.
