The College of Design and Bioeconomy Institute at Iowa State University
helped mark Earth Day 2012 by announcing winners in the third annual Biorenewables Juried Student Art Competition. Metamorphosis, a ceramic sculpture by integrated studio arts senior Sean Roper, Greencastle, Pa., took Best in Show ($750). Other
award winners included Oil and Rust (oil on canvas), integrated visual arts graduate student Celinda Stamy, Mexico, Mo., first place
($350); Tangled Web of Life (denim, mixed media), integrated studio arts junior Kelsey Gill, Dakota Dunes, S.D., second place ($250); and Desk Hammock (recliner: reclaimed plywood, paper rolls), fourth-year architecture students Reed Counts, Forest City, and Blake Evans, Altoona, third place ($150).
The art will be exhibited in the atrium and
administrative suite of the Biorenewables Research Laboratory
(BRL) until April 2013, when the next juried show will be installed. The
Best in Show piece will be displayed permanently.
