Annual Introduction to Planning and Zoning Workshops for Local Officials

The Introduction to Planning and Zoning for Local Officials is offered annually in eight locations across the state. Locations will change from year-to-year so that city and county officials are able to attend a location near them at least once every two years. The dates and locations for 2011 are as follows:

March 22 â€" Quad Cities â€" Scott County Extension Office
March 23 â€" Fairfield â€" Fairfield Arts & Convention Center
March 29 â€" Fort Dodge â€" Best Western Starlight Village
March 30 â€" Urbandale â€" Urbandale Public Library
April 5 â€" Dubuque â€" Grand Harbor Resort
April 6 â€" Waterloo â€" Ramada Hotel & Convention Center
April 12 â€" Council Bluffs â€" Hilton Garden Inn
April 13 â€" Spencer â€" Clay County Regional Events Center

Registration at each location begins at 5:15pm. A light supper will be served at 5:30. The workshop begins at 6:00pm, concluding by 8:45pm.

Registration Fees
The registration fee is $55 per individual. This fee is reduced to $45 per individual if a city or county registers 5 or more persons to attend. The fee covers supper and the workshop materials. Registration materials and payment must be received at least two weeks before the scheduled date of the workshop you wish to attend. Registrations will be accepted at the door, but a meal will not be provided.

The Introduction to Planning and Zoning for Local Officials is a three-hour workshop designed to introduce the basic principles of land use planning and development management to elected officials, planning and zoning officials, and board of adjustment members without formal training in the subjects. Using case scenarios in a highly-interactive format, it will highlight issues frequently faced in the land use process.
