30th Anniversary

The undergraduate minor in Design Studies is constructed to facilitate design awareness among interested students and to provide a vehicle for interdisciplinary study within the College of Design. This minor is open to all undergraduate students at Iowa State University.
This minor requires 15 credits of course work:
  • three credits of history selected from College of Design course offerings
  • 12 additional credits selected from College of Design course offerings
At least six of the 15 credits must be taken at Iowa State University in courses numbered 300 or above. At least nine of the 15 credits must not be used to meet any other college or university requirements except the credit requirement for graduation.

Students enrolled in the College of Design may not use courses in their major to satisfy this minor.

Students seeking the minor must:
  1. Discuss their interest in the minor with their academic adviser.

  2. Students from outside the College of Design must also discuss the proposed program of study with the Design Studies program coordinator. Appointments can be arranged by calling 294-7427 or stopping by room 134 College of Design.

  3. Fill out a university "Request for Minor" form which must be signed by the student, the student's adviser, the Design Studies program coordinator, and the dean of the student's college of major. It is recommended that this form be completed at least one semester prior to graduation.

Copies of "Undergraduate Minor in Design Studies: College of Design" and the "Request for Minor" form are available in the Student Services Office (294-6983), room 297 College of Design.
