The College of Design offers a variety of international study experiences throughout the world. The college’s flagship Rome Program allows you to study for a semester or a summer in your chosen major while you take classes that are fully integrated with the ISU curriculum. We also offer short-term study abroad and exchange opportunities in locations around the world.
All students participating in study abroad and exchange programs and the faculty members who lead students abroad will be covered by CISI, an international health insurance and emergency services plan. Participants will be automatically enrolled in CISI prior to departure and will receive insurance materials via email.
CISI insurance also is available to faculty and staff traveling internationally on university business, and it is centrally funded for this purpose. Enrollment in this case is not automatic; please contact Jen Hogan for assistance at least three weeks prior to departure.

Iowa State’s College of Design offers numerous scholarships to students interested in study abroad, including ones open to all college majors and those for specific programs.
Discover our international study scholarships on our scholarship site and use the drop down menu to filter only scholarships designated for “study abroad.” You can also use a keyword search for “abroad.”
You may also use your current financial aid package to help finance study abroad, especially for semester programs. Scholarships you are already receiving could help to further reduce your costs. Check with your scholarship donor to ensure the scholarship is still valid if you are studying abroad.
