Did You Know?

The Iowa State University Department of Community and Regional Planning is among the nation's longest-established planning programs. It is the only undergraduate planning program in Iowa, and one of only 16 undergraduate degree programs in the nation accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board.

Regional and urban planning classes offered in the landscape architecture department evolved into the Department of Urban Planning and finally Department of Community and Regional Planning in the 1970s. The department became part of the College of Design when it was created in 1978.

The Department of Community and Regional Planning has more than 1,200 living alumni in all 50 states and in 18 other countries around the world.

Current faculty are from six countries in addition to the U.S.

Associate professors Tim Borich and Gary Taylor have appointments with the Cooperative Extension Service – Extension Community and Economic Development, in addition to their CRP faculty appointments.
