1347 Forest Ave., Des MoinesCommunity Housing Development Corporation (CHDC) will break ground Tuesday, Sept. 9, on two new sustainable homes for low- to moderate-income families. One of the two homes, located on Forest Avenue in Des Moines, was designed by a team of architecture and interior design students from the Iowa State University College of Design.
The groundbreaking ceremony, featuring comments from the project architects and Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie, will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the 1347 Forest Ave. site. A reception will follow the ceremony at Evelyn Davis Park.

Designed by Iowa State University College of Design students from the Spring 2008 Design Studies 446/546 Interdisciplinary Design Studio taught by Nadia Anderson, lecturer in architecture. Students included Ryan Larson (M.Arch 2008 Architecture), Bryan Galli and John George, both graduate students in architecture, and Katie Myrhe (BFA 2008 Interior Design).
Contractor is Hocksbergen Construction, Randy Hocksbergen.
