PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE
While internships are not required to graduate, most architecture students choose to complete one or more to build professional connections, gain experience in the field, or begin accumulating hours required to become a licensed, registered architect. Students who participate in internships graduate with unique experience and exposure to the profession. Internships are a great way to learn more about an organization, geographic location or specific area of architecture.
Anyone wishing to take the Architecture Registration Exam (ARE) to become a registered architect must first work professionally as an intern architect for about three years. Most students wait until after graduation to complete this internship requirement, but they may begin working toward fulfilling the requirement after their third year of study in the Bachelor of Architecture degree program.
