Degree Program
The professional Bachelor
of Architecture degree from Iowa State University is accredited by the National
Architectural Accrediting Board. This five-year degree consists of one year
in the College of Design's preprofessional Core Design Program,
followed by four years in the professional Bachelor of Architecture (BArch)
degree program. The architecture program annually admits 78 students.
The BArch degree from Iowa State provides the foundation for becoming a
licensed, registered architect, and it does so within five years — the least amount of time possible. A registration certificate indicates that one
has completed architectural school, spent the minimum required time as an
intern-architect, and then passed a comprehensive examination designed to measure
professional judgment and ability. Because architects directly affect the
public health, safety and welfare, registration is an assurance that an
individual can practice the profession responsibly.
