Volunteers Sought for Community Visit, Charrette
The Minnesota Design Team
(MDT) seeks volunteers for its visit to LeRoy, Minn., in April. MDT is
a volunteer organization of planners, architects and landscape
architects who visit rural communities over a long weekend and suggest
ways to solve their problems on a wide range of issues. MDT teams
consist of 15-20 professionals and may include a few students. The team
stays with host families, where participants have time to hear
"unbiased" opinions about what their town really needs. The team also
attends presentations and tours the community, facilitates a Town Hall
meeting and holds a design charrette to produce concepts and
recommendations for community action.
LeRoy is a town of about 900 people on the Iowa/Minnesota border,
about 30-40 minutes from Austin and Rochester. Its main issues include
how to attract families with children to preserve its school district,
and how to beautify the downtown to attract new businesses.
MDT hopes to include professionals from Iowa on the team going to LeRoy April 10-13. Please contact MDT LeRoy Visit co-leaders Jon Sevald or Harold Skjelbostad if you are interested in joining this group.

Smoking Policy: Loading Dock
Environmental Health and Safety reminds faculty, staff and students of the university's smoking policy.
While the loading dock is the designated smoking area at the College of
Design, there should be no smoking at the loading dock any time there
is a vehicle loading or unloading there. If a delivery vehicle is at
the dock, smokers must observe the "25 feet from the building" rule.
Thanks for your attention to this matter.
