DESIGN CONDENSED

The College of Design at Iowa State University is pleased to offer an intensive one-week residential camp for students entering 10th grade through recent high school graduates. This immersive experience will help you get a sense of what it is like to be in college.

Days will be spent at the College of Design on the Iowa State campus, engaging in a series of college-structured courses. You will spend evenings at the Iowa 4-H Center located in Madrid, Iowa, enjoying outdoor activities (hiking, zip-lining, wall climbing, archery ,etc.) and free time exploring art and design.

The 2014 Design Condensed will provide two tracks for participants, allowing you to choose courses tailored to your design interests:

Track One
Digital Media and Design: Constructing Narratives, 3D Modeling and Motion Graphics
Students will explore various forms of digital media and design. Projects will involve 3D modeling, drawing and motion graphics. You will explore the visual potential of digital media through the use of narratives, storytelling and other forms of visual communication.

Track Two
Environment and Spaces: Design for Interiors, Architectures, Landscapes and Products
Students will explore the principles of 2D and 3D space as they apply to the design of interior spaces, architectural forms and product designs. You will work with drawing, rendering and modeling to communicate visual information about the built and natural environment.

Eligibility
The camp is open to high school students who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors in fall 2014, as well as recent high school graduates (spring 2014).

Sunday, June 22 – Saturday, June 28, 2014

Check in at 4 p.m. June 22; dinner with families
Gallery show at 10:30 a.m. June 28; participants and families depart

Registration Fee
The $535 registration fee per participant covers all art materials, meals, transportation, and room and board. You will need to bring your own linens (sleeping bag or bed sheets/blankets, pillow and towels).
