Art H 378: Popes and Caesars: 2000 Years of Art History in Rome. 3 credits
A survey of Italian art and architecture from the Etruscans to Bernini, with a special emphasis on the art treasures and monuments of Rome through lectures, tours of museums and historic sites, and field trips to other Italian cities.
 
ArtIS 493D/593D: Drawing Workshop. 3 credits
Through visiting historical sites and art collections, including current exhibitions, students will create a sketchbook and journal of their daily Rome experiences.
 
ArtIS 493J/593J: Digital Photography Workshop. 3 credits
This class will use the architecture, history, color and people of Rome as subjects for the study of digital photography. Students will learn to visualize a photograph, see the environment, and capture the spirit of a place through this extensive study of imaging. A digital camera with a zoom lens and the capability of at least 6 megapixels of resolution is required.

ArtIS 238/338/438/538: Painting Studio. 3 credits
This course will introduce the techniques of Caravaggio, Raffaello and Tiziano, including a comparison of Renaissance and Baroque painting styles.  Students will also participate in day trips to various locations in Rome and in Florence.
 
ArtIS 305: Mixed Media Studio. 3 credits
Students will explore mosaic design from architectural surfaces, geometric patterns, vegetal motifs and figure compositions on tours and day trips as they create two- and three-dimensional contemporary mosaics utilizing the media and concepts of ancient mosaics. Additional topics include book art and Futurist watercolors.
 
Art H 498/598: The Art History of the Book: 2000 Years of Writing and Printing in Italy.
3 credits
A survey of the evolution of the written word from ancient inscriptions and volumina (scrolls) to the medieval codex and the printed book of the Renaissance and later, with field trips to libraries, museums, and ecclesiastical collections in Rome and vicinity.
