| Home > Tutorials > QuarkXPress > Basic QuarkXpress Tutorial #0002: How to Use an Imported Text File that includes Tables As most of you know, you can place a text file in QuarkXpress much the way you can place an image. You simply create a text box and use the "Get Text" command on the File menu. But what if your text contains complex tables? Importing a text file with tables will leave you with acres of gobbledey-gook. This one is actually fairly easy to solve. 1. Open your text document in your word processor. The labs are all equipped with MSWord, so we will use that for our example. Select all of the text (Edit> Select All). 2. Under the EDIT menu choose Publishing> Create Publisher. Give the publisher a name. Save your document.
3. Open QuarkXPress. Open the target document. 4. Draw a PICTURE box where you want the text to be placed. Yes, I said PICTURE box (it does not work with the text box). 5. Go to the EDIT menu and select "Subscribe to " You will be present with a dialog box that will allow you to select the appropriate publisher. Select the Publisher document you just created in Word and click the Subscribe button.
Any changes made and saved in the word document will show up in Quark document. -J |
