iMovie Tutorial 0006 - Getting your Movie to Videotape

So, you've finished your project and you need to get it back to video. What do you do? This is easier than it may seem at first glance.

1. Open your project in iMovie. When you are ready to send to videotape, save your project.

2. Open the Preferences dialog (EDIT > Preferences). Click to the ADVANCED tab, and make sure that the Video Play Through to Camera option is checked.

[Advanced dialog settings]

3. Preview your video by pressing the play button on the playback window. Watch the quality on the television monitor. If the motion appears correct, you can actually record directly.

4. Insert your tape into the VCR. Press the RECORD button, then the PAUSE button on the remote. In the playback window, make sure that the video is cued and ready to go.

5. Press the PAUSE button on the remote to begin recording, then press the PLAY button the playback window to start the movie. When the video  is over, stop recording and stop playback.

That's the quick and easy way. This works on our lab video editing machines, but I have not had a chance to test in other configurations.
