4-7-08 - Our new Canon ImagePress C1 will be ready for use starting April 8, 2008. We will be transitioning to this new printer over the next couple of days. You will need to install new printer drivers in order to print to this new printer. You can find instructions at http://www.design.iastate.edu/PRINTERS. Please let us know if you have any problems with the installers. New Prices: Single Prints: $1.00 (until the end of the semester) Copies/multiples: $.50. This printer produces signigicantly higher quality prints than our old printer. We hope you enjoy it!!!! :)

4-7-08 - VEISHEA HOURS: The labs will be closing at 7:00 pm, Friday and Saturday of this week (Apr. 11 & 12). The building will be closing at 7:00 pm both nights as well.

2-29-08 - New lower price for prints from the KIP Printer! We have finally finished paying off our KIP printer, and have reduced our price to $1.00/liner-foot for both prints and copies.

11-01-07 - SketchUp Pro 6 Windows problem in 446: Users have reported a problem with launching SketchUp in room 446. When launching SketchUp on the PCs in the open lab, you may receive an error; "SketchUp was unable to validate your license file. SketchUp cannot be started because your system clock has been set back to before the last time you used SketchUp." If this occurs, open the Date & Time control panel, and set the clock to the correct time (it will be an hour behind). The machines erroneously rolled back an hour this past Sunday, due to a missing Daylight Savings Time patch. This coming Sunday, SketchUp will once again work normally, as the time will then be in sync with the license server.

10-01-07 - Illustrator Tutorial 0006 - Solution to the "More than 27 spot colors and transparency" Printing Error - If you get this error when attempting to print, please read this tutorial for instructions on how to fix the problem.

8-27-07 - Attention Laptop Users! If you have one of the Intel-Based Macs (MacBook, or MacBookPro), you will need to reinstall your color printer. This will resolve the “Unknown” file bug when printing from Photoshop CS3 to our color printer. Please delete the old printer before installing the new. You can find the new scripts at:

2-13-06 - Helpful Site of the week: Adobe Forums - Tons of information and discussions between Adobe software users, and techs. Massive, massive amounts of information. Featured discussion: EPS and InDesign - If you ever wanted to know the intricacies of image formats in InDesign, and believe me, if you are in Graphic Design, you do, this discussion is very informative! Note: Registration is required, but is well worth it.

1-26-06 - I have added a new area to the site on File Management. This area contains information on organizing your files, backing up data, and a glossary of common computer terminology.

1-17-06 - Announcing the opening of the new Digital Acquisition Studio, housed in room 530 Design!

Equipment available in 530:

• Wide-scanner (Windows)
• Video-editing (Windows)
• 3-DDigitizer (Windows) - This will be ready soon!
• Video-Editing (Macintosh - FinalCut Pro)
• Slide-scanner (Macintosh)
• Flat-bed scanner (Macintosh)
• Northeast Wall - lights
• Southeast Wall - green screen, lights, and backdrops

Available hours are the same as lab open hours. You may sign up in room 426, and are limited to no more than two consecutive hours.

The rules:

1. There are 8 different activities in this room. You may sign up for one activity at a time, and are limited to that specific workstation or area of the room.

2. Check in with the lab monitor in 426 at the beginning of your session to pick up a key to the room. The keys are numbered. This key must be returned to room 426 at the end of your session. You are responsible for returning the key on time.

3. All group members must be listed on the session sign up sheet when working with a group in 530. We will be counting the number of users in 530 periodically.

4. Do not prop open the door. If we discover that the door to 530 has been propped open, or otherwise made to interfere with the ability of the door to close properly, all users signed up to use the room during that time will lose access privileges for a month. No exceptions.

5. No food or drink. This is a really nice room, and we'd like to keep it that way.

12-01-05 - This is dedication! These poor folks were here very, very early to get signed up to use the laser cutter next week! We love the laser cutter and can't wait to get our second one!

Thanks for being so nice and orderly! I promise we will have our second laser cutter well before this time next semester!

11-14-05 - Thanksgiving Break Update: We will close this Friday, Nov. 18, at 5:00 pm, and will be closed for the entire Thanksgiving break. We will resume regular hours Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005. Have a great break!

10-10-05 - Great news! We've lowered our prices for the Epson Wide-format Color Printer! It is now $.50/linear inch, instead of $.70/linear inch.

9-27-05 - Getting an error message in Illustrator when you try to print? Something about "more than 27 spot colors and transparency"? Check out the latest Illustrator tutorial! This should help solve your problem.

9-14-05 - I just found a great resource for font information: Font Geek. If you need information about font management, or just about fonts in general, I highly recommend that you spend some serious time at this site. Good coffee break reading! Check out the OKFont download if you are having weird font problems...

9-13-05 **** Print Tip 0010 - How to Print to Non-Letter-Sized Paper from Windows - Read this is you are having a problem getting your files to print to 11 x 17 or 12 x 18 paper on the Color or Lab Printer (lab printer is black and white only, with a max size of 11 x 17). We've had a lot of students sending files to the color printer who have been having this problem. This tip will help save you time and frustration!
