Iowa State University
Construction bids for the College of Design King Pavilion were opened on Sept. 27, 2007.  Five well-qualified general contractors competed for the work. In spite of a good construction climate, bids received were too high for the resources available for this project.

College of Design Dean Mark Engelbrecht worked diligently with the project architect and the ISU Facilities Planning and Management team to analyze the overage and redesign the project to meet the original goal of $6.25 million.

Guiding the reevaluation of the project were the aspirations for sustainable performance, particularly regarding energy consumption and storm-water management, delivering essential programming, and creating a total environment that will become a source of pride for all.

Following the reevaluation and adjustments to the overall project, the university once again opened the bidding process for the King Pavilion. The new bid deadline was Feb. 28, 2008. The Cedar Rapids office of Miron Construction Co., Inc., was awarded the King Pavilion contract. Construction began April 23, 2008.
