ISU Design West is a new satellite program of the Iowa State University College of Design aimed at expanding regional educational opportunities in the design disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, and interior design. The program is a partnership of the College of Design, ISU Extension, and Sioux City, Iowa, and supported in part by an Iowa Great Places grant.

ISU Design West is headquartered in the Fourth Street Historic District o
f Sioux City, in a studio facility that will provide space for Iowa State design students and faculty to engage in both short- and long-term projects with the community. A future goal is to offer introductory design courses at the site for Sioux City-area students interested in transferring to the ISU College of Design.

The renovated studio space is housed in one of the oldest remaining buildings in Sioux City, an 1890s-era former steam-boiler plant with a four-story smokestack. Students, faculty and community partners will draw on this setting and the distinctive late 19th-century architecture of the city as their inspiration for developing regional design projects.

Three studios from ISU are studying in Sioux City in Fall 2008, and an undergraduate course for the Core Design Program begins at ISU Design West on August 26! To learn more, visit the About the Studio link on this site!
