Design Exchange
Majors Eligible to Join
Open to all majors in the College of Design: Art and Design, Integrated Studio Arts, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Community and Regional Planning.
Program Description
The Design Exchange Learning Community is a living and learning experience open to first-time, first-year students enrolled in any major in the College of Design.
All Design Exchange students are enrolled in a 1-credit seminar each semester that encourages their personal, social and intellectual development. All students will take DSN S 183 and DSN S 131 together in the fall. Eligible students can take a linked ENGL 150 class as well. In the spring, they will take DSN S 102. Also in the spring, ENGL 250 will be linked for students who placed into that class. Both of the English classes (150 and 250) will incorporate design-related topics to further explore current issues in design through discussion, reflection and writing.
Each February, Design Exchange students travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota, to visit design firms and art museums along with the Mall of America. Throughout the year, students may participate in various academic and social activities arranged by a peer mentor as well as workshops geared toward assisting students with the process of applying to the college's professional programs.
Living Options
The Design Exchange is a residential learning community housed in Friley and Linden Halls.
