Interior Design Student Association

There is a large active student organization called the Interior Design Student Association (IDSA). This association has two vice-presidents who are liasions to two major interior design professional societies: the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).

Article I - Purposes of Organization

The purposes of the Organization are as follows:
  1. To promote high ethical and design standards.
  2. To benefit the membership of the Organization by providing an exchange of ideas, a common meeting ground for understanding, cooperation and education and an opportunity to keep abreast of development in interior design.
  3. To promote interaction with professional interior designers and interior design organizations.
  4. To undertake such programs and activities as may be proper to promote and enhance educational development.

Article II - Members

Membership may be granted to any ISU student pursuing a degree in interior design or with an interest in interior design.
Membership shall be granted upon submission of a completed application to the Secretary.
VOTING. Members shall be entitled to vote in all matters coming before the membership.
RESIGNATION. Any member may resign from the Organization by giving written notice to the President of the Organization. Resignation shall not relieve the member so resigning of the obligation to pay any dues, assessments or other charges theretofore accrued and unpaid.

Article III - Dues and Assessments

The annual Organization dues for all members of the Organization will be due at the time application for membership is submitted. Other assessments, if any, shall be determined from time to time by the current organization officers.
Each member will be required to affiliate with at least one national interior design organization of their choice. Any student membership dues for such organization shall be paid by the member. National interior design organizations shall include ASID and IIDA.
Article IV- Meetings of Members
Meetings of the members shall be held at least once per month during the Fall and Spring semesters at such date as may be determined by the executive committee.
Notice of the day, time and place of any meeting shall be delivered not less than one week before the date of the meeting.
QUORUM. One- third of the entire voting membership, present in person or by proxy, shall constitute a quorum at any meeting of the members.

Article V -Executive Committee

GENERAL POWERS. The affairs of the Organization shall be managed by the Executive Committee, which shall have supervision, control and direction of the affairs of the Organization, shall determine its policies therein within the limits of these bylaws, shall actively pursue its purposes and have discretion in the disbursement of its funds. The Executive Committee may adopt such rules and regulations for the conduct of its business as shall be deemed advisable.
NUMBER. The Executive Committee shall consist of the elected officers.
MEETINGS. The Executive Committee shall meet at least once per month during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Article VI - Officers

The officers of the Organization shall be a President, a Vice- President/ Liaison to ASID, a Vice-President/ Liaison to IIDA, a Secretary, a Treasurer, a Representative from each class, Interior Design Program Advisory Board Representative. All officers must be in good academic standing at ISU and be an interior design major.
ELECTION AND TERM OF OFFICERS. The officers of the Organization shall be elected by the voting members at the last meeting of the spring semester, and begin their duties at the conclusion of the meeting. Each officer shall hold office until his or her successor shall have been duly elected. No person shall be candidate for office without his or her prior consent.
VACANCIES. A vacancy in any office shall be filled by the executive committee for the unexpired portion of the term.
PRESIDENT. The President shall be the principal elected officer of the Organization and shall in general direct all of the business and affairs of the Organization. The President shall preside at all meetings of the Organization. The President may appoint standing committees, ad-hoc committees, and their respective chairmen. The President shall be and ex- Officio member of all committees.
VICE-PRESIDENTS. In the absence of the President or in the event of the President's inability or refusal to act, the Vice- President designated by the President as alternate presiding officer shall perform the duties of the President and, when so acting, shall have all of the powers and be subject to all of the restrictions upon the President.
The Vice-President / Liaison to ASID will have the duty of being the official liaison between the Organization and ASID. It will be his/her responsibility to communicate information from ASID and to promote interaction with ASID.
The Vice-President/Liaison to IIDA will have the duty of being the official liaison between the Organization and IIDA. It will be his/her responsibility to communicate information from IIDA and to promote interaction with IIDA.
PRESIDENT ELECT. The President Elect is chosen with the knowledge that after one year of service he/she will automatically become the IDSA President. As the President Elect, in the first year of service, he/she is expected to plan the annual IDSA spring trip to a local city to visit design firms.
SECRETARY. The Secretary shall keep the minutes of the meetings of the members and of the meetings of the Executive Committee; see that all notices are duly given; be custodian of the Organization records; keep a register of the addresses of each member which shall be furnished to the secretary by such member; maintain current registration with ISU Student Organizations.
TREASURER. The Treasurer shall keep an account of all money received and expended by the Organization and shall make disbursements authorized by the executive committee. All sums received shall be deposited in the Campus Organizations account.
CLASS REPRESENTATIVE. A representative from the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes shall act as liaisons between the Organization and the classes.
DESIGN COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE. Two representatives shall act as liaisons between the Interior Design Student Organization and the Design Council.
ADVISORY BOARD REPRESENTATIVE. The Advisory Board Representative is the contact sourse between the IDSA and the ISU Interior Design faculty. This meant to encourage members to express concerns or suggestions for Interior Design faculty.
PUBLICITY CO-CHAIRS. This position is held by 2 persons. Their duty is to promote the late summer / early fall membership drive. Also throughout the year they must provide information about meetings, activities, or events to IDSA members through posted signs (throughout the College of Design and the Armory), mailings, emails, and/or announcement in studios.

Article VII - Advisors

Advisors shall act in a non-voting advisory capacity to the Organization. Advisors shall consist of one faculty member, one Professional Member of ASID, and one Professional Member of IIDA.

Article VIII -University Regulations

The Organization shall maintain current registration with the ISU Student Organizations Office and shall abide by all policies and regulations described in the Student Organizations Resource Manual and University Policies and Conduct Regulations described in the Student Handbook.

Article IX - Amendments

The power to alter, amend, or repeal the Bylaws or adopt new bylaws shall be vested in the elected officers and the membership and can be done at any meeting. Any changes require the approval of the faculty advisor.
