GIS Geospatial Technology Training Program The ISU Extension GIS Geospatial Technology Training Program offers a series of hands-on short courses in geographic information systems. All courses are held at the GIS Outreach & Research Laboratory, located in room 526 of the College of Design building.

Essentials of ArcGIS 9.2: This two-day course will explore the new, easy-to-use features in ArcGIS 9.2 ArcMap, ArcToolbox and ArcCatalog.

Essential One Day Intensive ArcGIS 9.2: This intensive one-day course is for those who have already taken basic instruction in ArcGIS 9.2, but may not have had the opportunity to use the software regularly, and now wish to "catch up" and become more skilled.

Essential GPS: An Introduction: This one-day course teaches the basics of the Global Positioning System (GPS), how to collect data using handheld GPS equipment and how to download and manipulate the data in ArcGIS 9.2.

Beyond Essentials: Unlocking Census Data: This one-day course assumes a basic level of ArcGIS skill. In this course you will learn to download U.S. Census data, create maps using the data and do analysis of demographic, social, economic and housing conditions.

Beyond Essentials: Cartography: Map mapping expertise allows you to communicate geographic information clearly with maps. Poorly designed maps may undermine the information you hope your audience grasps. In this one-day course you will take the essential map making skills further to be better able to communicate your content. You will learn to better utilize color quality, visual hierarchy, text fonts, and layout through professional instruction and course exercises.

Beyond Essentials: GIS for Community Development: This two-day course brings together the multiple dimensions of community development for mapping and analysis. Data and data sources are explored including economic, social, workforce, retail, utilities, transportation, and environmental. A primary is the production of making information visual and utilizing GIS data and analysis for decision-making in community development.
