To sign up for the GIS Application course, the student should prepare a project proposal approved by the student's GIS faculty member. The proposal should contain the following components: (1) problem definition, (2) research design, (3) methodology, and (4) project outline.
Upon project completion, the student will deliver a presentation in the GIS Seminar course. In addition, a type-written report should be prepared and submitted to the student's GIS faculty member. The following format requirements apply to the final report:
  1. cover page: course number and title, proposal title, name, and date;
  2. table of contents: sections, list of tables/figures with page numbers;
  3. all pages must be numbered (except the cover page): table of contents pages should be numbered with Roman numerals (e.g., i, ii, iii, iv, v, etc.) while report body pages should be numbered with Arabic numerals (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.)
  4. font size: no smaller than 11 points, double-spaced
  5. table/figure: each table/figure must be numbered and should have a title;
  6. references should be properly cited/quoted.
Proposal Report
Problem Definition
  • Introduction/statement of the research problem.
  • The needs to conduct the study.
  • The main objectives of the study.
  • The main contributions of the study.
Research Design
  • Relevant theories and/or literature to the problem.
  • Conceptual framework.
  • Description of concepts and variables.
Methodology
  • Operationalization/measurement of variables.
  • Data collection, preparation, and compilation.
  • Data analysis/modeling and presentation.
Project Outline
  • Table of Contents, list of references, appendix(es)
