Building Landscapes of Capital Flow In the 19th century, Colonial forces eradicated the prairie landscape of Iowa. All forms of pre-colonial symbolic practices were erased in the process of transforming the land into an agricultural production space. Family farms, the production unit of the American Midwest, developed a ‘modern’ form of social practices that signified the non-violent capitalism in which class struggle is minimized. For the last two decades, the way of life of family farming is rapidly transforming to accommodate global circuits of corporate farming. This research investigates the tools through which space is incorporated within capitalist circuits and the way these tools evolved from Colonial to Global times.
