Immersive Experience
The College of Design at Iowa State University is pleased to offer two intensive one-week residential camps geared toward immersing participants in the world of design.
Design Condensed will help you gain design knowledge, build visual and verbal communication skills, experience college life and coursework, meet new people with similar interests and explore the various art and design fields in a fun, supportive environment. You will live in an ISU residence hall, eat meals in one of our dining centers, and take classes with our faculty in our state-of-the-art facilities.
Camp Options
You have two different camp options. Option 1, Explorations in Art and Design: Space Transformation and Communication, will be offered July 10-16. Option 2, Seen and Unseen: Drawing Felt Space, will be offered July 17-23.
Eligibility
Design Condensed Option 1 and Option 2 are open to high school students who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors in fall 2011.
Program Overview
During both camps, students will be engaged in coursework from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and will participate in evening events to build community among participants. A live-in peer mentor will be available in the residence hall to provide support as you begin to imagine yourself in a college-level design curriculum.
Activities will include tours of professional offices and studios; question-and-answer sessions with current College of Design students, practitioners and educators; on-site sketching; photo documentation; visits to area museums; outdoor recreation, and social activities such as bowling and movies.
Each camp will culminate on Saturday in a public reception and gallery exhibition to highlight student work. At the end of the week, you can take your work home with you.
