CRP's Mission Statement (as adopted in August 2007):
The Department of Community and Regional Planning believes that working with citizens, planners advance change for the betterment of community life locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. We prepare and sustain professional planners who are critical and creative thinkers, technically competent, culturally and ethically aware global citizens and have the ability to influence outcomes in the physical and policy environment.
Our multicultural department engages with planning practice in integrating research, teaching and outreach consistent with the tenets of the Land Grant The College of Design was established to:
- provide an organization for direct interaction among students, faculty and pre-professionals involved in all aspects of the visual arts, design, and the planning of structures, communities, and environments
- improve educational opportunities for the increasing number of young people entering programs in the design professions
- provide opportunities for all students in the university to undertake studies in art, design, and the built environment
- foster creative thought, scholarship, and research on an interdisciplinary basis as well as on an individual basis
Iowa State University's strategic plan for 2005-2010 set out the following mission, vision, values, and priorities:
Mission To make Iowa and the world a better place by:creating knowledge through world-class scholarship in teaching, research, and creative endeavors; sharing knowledge through outstanding undergraduate, graduate, professional, and outreach programs; and applying knowledge to improve the quality of life for current and future generations.
The mission is accomplished through innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, with honesty, integrity, and professional ethics, and with sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of our state, nation, and the world. In carrying out its mission, Vision Iowa

Priorities
Five priority areas and accompanying goals for 2005-2010 have been identified to reinforce existing strengths and pursue ISU�s vision:
