Iowa State University
CRP's Mission Statement (as adopted in August 2007):

The Department of Community and Regional Planning believes that working with citizens, planners advance change for the betterment of community life locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. We prepare and sustain professional planners who are critical and creative thinkers, technically competent, culturally and ethically aware global citizens and have the ability to influence outcomes in the physical and policy environment.

Our multicultural department engages with planning practice in integrating research, teaching and outreach consistent with the tenets of the Land Grant Mission . We will be known for our strong community-based learning and scholarship in an applied context including a commitment to Extension and Outreach that strengthens the sustainable relationship between people and the land.

The College of Design was established to:
- provide an organization for direct interaction among students, faculty and pre-professionals involved in all aspects of the visual arts, design, and the planning of structures, communities, and environments
- improve educational opportunities for the increasing number of young people entering programs in the design professions
- provide opportunities for all students in the university to undertake studies in art, design, and the built environment
- foster creative thought, scholarship, and research on an interdisciplinary basis as well as on an individual basis

Iowa State University's strategic plan for 2005-2010 set out the following mission, vision, values, and priorities:

Mission
To make Iowa and the world a better place by:creating knowledge through world-class scholarship in teaching, research, and creative endeavors; sharing knowledge through outstanding undergraduate, graduate, professional, and outreach programs; and applying knowledge to improve the quality of life for current and future generations.

The mission is accomplished through innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, with honesty, integrity, and professional ethics, and with sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of our state, nation, and the world. In carrying out its mission, Iowa State will increase and support diversity in the university community. Diversity enlivens the exchange of ideas, broadens scholarship, and prepares students for lifelong, productive participation in society.

Vision
Iowa State University will be the best at advancing the land-grant ideals and putting science and technology to work. Students will become broadly educated, global citizens who are culturally informed, technologically adept, and ready to lead. Faculty and staff will share a passion for creating, sharing, and applying knowledge to improve lives world-wide. Collaborations among partners both inside and outside the university community will flourish. The spirit of Iowa State University will be evident in the integration of the sciences and humanities and in the energy and creativity of its people.
