College of Design students can access ISU CMS, Iowa State University Career Management Service, an online employment posting site with full time employment and internship opportunities. We believe ISU CMS offers COD students many advantages:
Getting Started with ISU CMS
Changing Your Password Exploring ISU CMS
My Profile
To qualify for employment and interviews, you must update your student profile. Complete your Degree level, Work Authorization and Applicant Type in 'My Profile' Do not be concerned that your student organizations are not included in the drop down list; these are not seen by employers and can be included in your resume.
Uploading your Resume
From 'documents', please upload your resume(s). You must have a resume to apply for job postings on-line and interview schedules. Your resume will be converted to a .PDF format with a file size limited to 300 kb. If your resume is larger than 300 KB, we suggest that you lower the resoulution to 72-150 when creating your document or create a simplified version of your resume to upload on ISU CMS. Employers will view documents digitally; rarely will they print them. Please review the conversion to insure that it is error-free and has the appearance you want.
DO NOT include photos of yourself or personal images on your resume or samples. For assistance in preparing your resume, please contact: mhutches@iastate.edu.
Using ISU CMS to Search for Jobs/Internships After logging into ISU CMS, follow these simple instructions to easily find current employment or internship opportunities specifically for your academic major. Employer Searches
Under the Employer Searches section, you can do any Keyword searches of the Employer data set and, you can also use any keywords related to your major or field of study to conduct employer searches. Searches of JOBS by Major/Field of Study, Keywords, and state, region, country is not currently available but will be up and running shortly.
Remember
Include many resources in your job search. Most COD students find jobs and internship by first deciding on geographical preferences, researching firms in those cities and then contacting the firms directly to inquire about opportunities and to schedule interviews. In design employment culture, firms expect interested candidates to contact them directly if interested in internships or entry-level employment. It's the norm!
