Students | INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS' EMPLOYMENT

Iowa State University
Most international students are in the U.S. on non-immigrant student visas (F-1 and J-1),
and  are eligible to accept employment under certain conditions.

Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
Employment authorization in a practicum or internship directly related to a student's major
which is either required or for academic credit is available to F-1 Visa holders who have
been in status for nine months. Visit the International Students & Scholars Website
for guidelines and forms.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)
If you are graduating or completing your coursework and want to find employment, keep
in mind that it takes 3 to 4 months to get OPT approved and your application must reach
the Immigration Service Center in Nebraska BEFORE the last day of the semester.

International Students & Scholars Office
Visit the International Students & Scholars Website for OPT and CPT guidelines and forms. Workshops are held each week on Tuesday from 11 a.m. - Noon.
