alumni can assist students with career development, internship and job searches by participating in the COD Alumni Career Network. We believe that alumni are the best contacts current students could possibly have when searching for jobs and internships. Students greatly benefit from information, advice and resources that a professional who is living and working in their targeted cities can offer them.
Networking with Students
Because of the efficiency and convenience of electronic communication, initial contacts between students and COD Alumni Career Network participants will occur via e-mail. After an initial contact via e-mail, if you wish, further dialogue witha student could be arranged via telephone at a scheduled time. However, all correspondence could take place through e-mail. Topics of Interest to Students§ Information about your career niche;§ Resources for identifying perspective employers and contacts in your area;§ Suggestions of area employers that typically hire interns or recent graduates;§ Concerns regarding housing, economic factors and the job market in your city.
Recruiting and Posting Employment Opportunities
Alumni can also assist design students by asking their employer to attend Career Days and to include the
College
of
Design
in other campus recruitment activities. Finding a position takes much time, effort and expense; students appreciate knowing about firms and opportunities with ISU connections. All internships, entry level positions, and professional positions for current students and alumni are posted by employers on ISU CMS (Iowa State University Career Management Service.)
