M Arch II
and M S A S are 30-credit research degrees with a required graduate thesis. M Arch II is non-accredited post-professional degree for applicants that hold a
professional degree in Architecture or other affiliated design fields who are interested
conducting a design-based graduate research. M S A S is for applicants that hold a bachelor degree, in any field,
who are interested in conducting graduate-level research on the built
environment. Applicants are encouraged to define a research track that aligns
with the academic expertise of the Department of Architecture faculty, such as:
Sustainability and Green Design, Representation and Digital Media, Design
Inquiry, Advanced Building Design,
Architectural and Construction History,
Rural and Urban Studies, Building Science and Construction.
Once
accepted, M Arch II and M S A S students designate a professor to supervise their
study and advise them to formulate the list of courses in accordance with their
research goals. A typical program of study for an M Arch II or M S A S student is
as follows:
6 credits two history/theory
seminars (Arch 597 & Arch 598),
9 credits courses within the
research area,
6 credits electives,
3 credits thesis preparation,
6 credits graduate thesis,
and a no-credits All-Grad seminar
(Arch 698).
